Les will be at the camp this Saturday 15th September to continue with the Orchid and complete the 2018 C5LS field survey. You also have the option to hike the four trail systems (the trails were bush wacked a couple of weeks ago). He will be leaving St. Michael's at 9:00 am arriving at the camp around 9:30 am. If you drive directly to the camp let the ranger (Rob) know you are with Les, then park in main parking lot before the main hill into the camping area. Recommend hiking boots, long sleeved shirt and pants. Folks who are interested in the Orchid survey rubber boots recommended. Lunch later at McPhersons or Grogs optional.

Survey details to date:
The Yellow Ladies Slipper, Grass Pink and Showy (Queen) Ladies Slipper Orchid 2018 field survey’s are complete with only the Nodding and Great Plains Ladies Tresses Orchids surveys to complete. So far have confirmed 230 Nodding Ladies Tresses Orchids. This flowering date is similar to the dates I have in my Ontario field survey guide. All stems where south of the Fen boardwalk in standing water.
We also checked on 1st September the area, drier terrain and to west of the Fen boardwalk, where we normally confirm the Great Plains Ladies Tresses Orchid starting first week in September. So, 13 Stems North of Wilderness Camp site, 7 Stems west of Fen boardwalk. This Orchid is the last Orchid to flower in Ontario and the only Orchid with an almond/scent. This Orchid is rated rare in Ontario, Canada and rare to uncommon Globally.
This summer confirmed 2 Northern Black Widow Spiders c/w egg sack under 2 of the C5LS boards in site 3C (this the set of boards that were laid down only this year).
