Tasks:Hauling lumber to 6 sites where fences will be built to close off unofficial side trails and allow for natural restoration.
Note:Parking is limited - please consider carpooling or parking at an alternate location and walking to the end of Richardson.

This is aNature Conservancy of Canadavolunteer event and youMUSTregister with them by the end of day, October 31st in order to participate. Please read their information below.

Physical activity for the work includes walking 2 kilometre(s) over uneven terrain, as well as bending, digging, hammering, kneeling, lifting up to 10 kg, and carrying materials and equipment.

The work activity is taking place at Ipperwash Dunes and Swales via Richardson Dr.starting at 10am on November 2, 2024.

An onboarding form must be filled out by each participant. There will be no washroom facilities on site. NCC staff will have toilet paper and hand sanitizer for those who need to use them on site.

To ensure the participants are comfortable and prepared for the task, they should bring the following items with them:

  1. Sturdy closed-toe shoes or rubber boots that you don’t mind getting muddy
  2. Layers of long clothing (long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sweater, jacket)
  3. Work or gardening gloves, if you have them
  4. Hat with a brim or toque and gloves, depending on weather
  5. Raincoat and rain pants (just in case)
  6. Water bottle
  7. Travel mug
  8. Lunch/snacks
  9. Sunscreen/bug spray
  10. Any necessary medications
  11. Optional: binoculars

NCC staff will bring the following:

  1. Extra water & snacks
  2. Safety equipment (hand sanitizer, first aid kits, etc.)

Field Safety Notes:

There is poison ivy and prickly vegetation on the property. Closed-toe footwear, long pants and long-sleeved shirts will limit exposure. Your event leader will help you avoid these plants where possible.

There may be ticks, which can carry Lyme disease, in the area. Tucking your pants into your socks and your shirt into your pants can limit your exposure. Be sure to check yourself thoroughly for ticks at the end of the day. For more information about Lyme disease and its prevention, visit theHealth Canada website.
